Heartland is my painting of Smith Mountain Lake in southwestern Virginia. The painting is made of handmade papers, acrylic paint, oil pastels and glazes. The "heart" in this painting is the mountain area where the damn is located on the lake. It is the logo or symbol for this lake since it is so easily identified by those who know the area. The Fourth of July is wonderful here with the fireworks blasting off in front of the mountain and over the water. This painting shows the stars and stripes from such a celebration and the lines represent the sun shimmering across the water as if welcoming you to the party.
